Work
on 8042 continues:
I have been making slow but steady progress on the interior of the car, while out on the benches Bear Kendlick and Father Jack Demnyan have been doing a great job painting the seat frames and the heater covers in the proper dark green. There is one that currently needs paint and about 4 more that are waiting for interior work to be done so that they can reinstalled. The workbench is aligned with the blind side bolster end repairs seen in the riveting link:
Inside 8042 the progress looks like this:
I brought my 9" band saw to save steps
The wall panels and seats were removed and new frames constructed. I featured the wall frame on the left in this photo last month. I am using green paint that was "scratch and dent" (mis-tint) to coat the new parts, inside of the steel sides and framing. There is a new piece of flooring replacing the rotted original section next the side sheet. There are new 1/4" pieces of medium density fiberboard (MDF) which were cut by Mike Buchta and painted by Bear Kendlick that attach over the frames. On the floor is the old wall panels which keep the paint from getting on the floor covering.
Walls on the right were replaced by Keith Bray as part of the job to replace rotted side sheets around the blind (left) side rear bolster undertaken back in December of 2020. Here's the link to the video:
Mike led a crew that reinstalled the heater ducts and the refinished seats.
The current work is moving down the door side of the car to the rear where Keith replaced rubber flooring and installed the rear seats. Left and Right are based on the front of the car.
Tuesday, the Porter locomotive was loaded onto 2 large trucks for its journey to a new home in Rhode Island.
April 29 an ECM truck cuts the corner too sharp pulling out of Museum Road and pulverizes the Verizon pole at the corner of Main Street. These two photos show the before and after taken April 30. The communication wires were mighty low and Laura called 911 to make sure that it had been noted by the first responders.
The Wellzes Museum refugee cat, rescued by the office staff last July, is thriving inside his favorite sink bowl.
Rescue day July 10, 2023, thanks to our office staff cat lovers! Did his initial bath make him fond of sinks and water? I think so.

in college and donated his Red Arrow jacket with a 5 year safety patch
and a folder with blueprints that appear to be St. Louis Car company
diagrams for 14 & 24.
On a rainy May 11 a father and son team ran 78 as the Dad was in town for the Son's graduation from CMU. Congrats!
Construction of the Playground
Red Arrow #4

Louie Mariano sent along several photos of the completed emblems on
Red Arrow sweeper #4. I provided him with the computer files needed for
this and made printouts so that the numbers can be properly sized and
placed on the car.
Last Saturday I did a drive by of the Street Fair.
Sunday I put on my hat and name tag and did a bit of public relations in the TDB
before trying out the Springhouse fare with Cindy
